My daily obsession with the Tour de France continues. Stage 3 yesterday was 4 hours of snoozing and ended with 20 minutes of edge of your seat action... well at least to me. The riders were tired from the previous 3 days, the head winds were punishing all day and many riders were sore from the crash the day before. One rider we were worried about was the Yellow Jersey holder Fabian Cancellera.
A few riders snuck away into the wind and stayed out all day. They held off the Peloton all the way to the end. The Peloton timed their catch too late. The teams of the Sprinters wanted to set up their guys for a classic flat stage sprint finish. Well everyone missed timed it. Everyone except the Yellow Jersey holder.
Cancellera launched himself at about 600m to go and went sailing by the lead 4 escapees and just took the win ahead of the late changering Peloton led by the sprinting teams. The Yellow Jersey defended the jersey well and rode like a champion. Never did CSC plan this scenario, but what a finish. Bravo Cancellera.
Today's stage, Stage 4 has another escape right now and Juan Antonio Flecha is in the group. I'm rooting for him because he has a wicked celebration (Flecha = Arrow).
